What's New at The Daylily Cottage?
Writing an actual blog post feels a little strange since it's been so long. It kind of feels as if I'm trying on a new pair of shoes that fit well, but need to be broken in before they're truly comfortable. So here goes the breaking in, the pushing through part of the process. Even though blogging has been part of my life for many years, it has been quite some time since it was regular but I want to be sure to keep you guys informed and answer the questions I've received lately so you know what's going on and what to expect.
New Location
“The secret to change is to focus all of your energy, not on fighting the old, but on building the new.” – Socrates
If you're new here or haven't checked in in a while, let me catch you up. Last year, we sold our home where the Daylily Cottage Flower Stand was originally located in Opp and and have relocated to a piece of property out in country with more growing space potential. In February of 2023, we moved out to our property and lived in a fifth wheel camper while building our "forever home," which we completed and officially moved into around January and February of this year (camper life is a whole other blog post in and of itself and if there is enough interest, I might just have to write a post about that). The plan was to live here in the camper so I could continue growing and selling flowers while we built, but it didn't take long to see that that wasn't feasible with all of the construction materials, heavy machinery in and out, and the amount of time put into the design and finishes while building. I made the decision last year to sit the summer and fall growing seasons out, which was hard, but was much needed. Turns out, I needed a break after three pretty stressful years for our family. God knew I needed some time to recharge and after praying about it, I heard loud and clear that holding off on The Daylily Cottage last year was the right thing.
The front porch of our new home
Earlier this year, since we completed our build and were starting to get settled here, I decided it was time to re-launch The Daylily Cottage again in our new location. This time, though, I was ready for some new and fun things to offer that I hadn't in the past and jumped in with both feet at the end of March. I hit the ground running and it has been such a blessing! Thank YOU!!! So, let me tell you what's new other than our location. (23730 Meadows Rd. Andalusia, AL 36421---we're not in any city limits, but in the Eoda area of Covington County just North of Sasser's Crossroads as you travel toward Rose Hill)
New Flower Fun!
When thinking through re-launching The Daylily Cottage, I knew that I wanted to expand what we offered beyond just a flower stand. I made the decision this year to supplement what I grow with wholesale flowers so that I can offer more options to my customers and clients, especially while setting up our growing spaces on the new property. Eventually, as I add infrastructure, beds, perennials, etc., I hope to not have to use supplemental wholesale flowers for events as often, but that may take a little time. But it's the goal.
Here's what's new:
Event Flowers, Petal Parties, Floral Workshops, Pop-Ups, Special Orders, Prom Bouquets and Boutineers, DIY Event Buckets, Seasonal Home Decorating (not new but have taken a break the past three or four years from Christmas decorating but plan on offering that this year along with fresh greenery and wreaths) and more!

"Do you still offer a flower subscription?"
Yes! Our summer Bouquet Club started the first week of May, but you can still join for June and July. Also, we'll be doing a fall subscription this year as well! I'm super excited about offering that because fall is my absolute favorite season! You can find our more about Bouquet Club by clicking HERE.
"Will you stock a flower stand like before?"
We haven't built an actual flower stand yet on the new property, but plan on having porch pickup days on the weekends that will be self serve just like the flower stand in Opp was. I will post on social media (Facebook and Instagram) when those days will be so you can have a heads up. Those will be exclusively Daylily Cottage grown flowers and will likely be June before we do any porch pickup days. But be on the lookout!
Another thing I hope to do regularly is write blog posts for you about gardening, landscaping, flowers, and decorating. I get questions all the time pertaining to plants, flowers, and decorating so I hope to have resources for you to help. I have quite a few unfinished posts sitting in drafts, so just know that I'm working as time allows to get those ready for you all!
If I didn't answer your question or you need to get in touch, feel free to leave a comment, email me thedaylilycottage@yahoo.com or reach out on social media
Thanks! Amanda
